Paia and Kuau Growth?

The surrounding areas of Paia Town and Kuau may have received a nod by the Maui Planning Commission for future expansion. Given the desire of many Mauians to reside within walking distance of Paia, the Commission in consideration of "Smart Growth" development, approved future residential expansion of surrounding acreage currently planted in sugar cane. The areas slated are approximately 46 acres mauka of the Kuau Bay View neighborhood and another 50 acres above of Paia Town on the west side of Baldwin Avenue. More details are available in the Maui News. Keep in mind this is a revision of the Community Plan for future growth. Given current economic conditions and the downturn in the Maui real estate market, realistically it may be many years before any of this is actuated.
