50 Years of Statehood!

On August 21, 1959, United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a proclamation admitting Hawaii into the Union of the United States. Much has changed in the islands over the last 50 years! The actual history of how Hawai'i became a State is a much longer story. Information can be found at The National Archives website.

The 50th Anniversary of Statehood Commission's official Maui County event will be held on Saturday, August 8th from 4 to 6 p.m. on the A&B Amphitheater Lawn at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Enjoy 50 cents hot dogs, shave ice, beverages, games, community booths, bouncy castles and a walk down memory lane plus a rockin' performance by Jimmy Mac and the Kool Kats. There will be a community banner to sign and share your personal mana`o (thoughts/ideas) about 50 years of statehood for Hawai`i.
